April showers is a saying that represents spring rains in some locations of the northern hemisphere (particularly Ireland and the UK) during the month of April. The position of the jet stream is one of the major causes of the heavy downpours. In the early parts of spring the jet stream starts to move north which allows large depressions to carry strong rain and winds in from the Atlantic Ocean. As we experience here in Wisconsin, the weather can drastically change in one day from the sunshine of springtime to the sleet and snow of winter.
