Spreading Kindness with BGC!

Fort Atkinson Boys & Girls club members recently participated in their annual Penny Drive. Club members collected money towards this year’s goal of spreading kindness in our local community. Pennies for Kindness is one of many Torch Club Projects for the organization. Torch Club is a service-learning program designed to broaden our members’ cultural horizons while teaching them about their capacities as philanthropists.

This is the sixth annual Penny Drive at the Boys & Girls Club. Each year, the Club selects a new recipient of the donated money. Past recipients include the Central Asia Institute, Jefferson County Literacy Council, Jefferson County Humane Society, Tomorrow’s Hope, Dino the K9 dog and planting trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer. Over the years, Club members have collected nearly $4,000 to donate to these causes.

This year, member’s at all four sites were able to raise $652.92 for the project. The Purdy Club raised $292.90, Barrie $127.78, Rockwell $119.22 and Luther $116.50. The money raised was used for a variety of projects that included having Club members create inspiration rocks to hand out and place around town, kindness cards and cookies for the elementary school staff. The Club also bought ice cream at Frostie Freeze for patrons on Wednesday, April 11th in an effort to encourage kindness and paying it forward.

These projects were also a part of National Boys & Girls Club of America week, which is a week to celebrate and highlight the important work of Clubs across the country. Locally the Club hosted several programs that focused on the future of our members, our youth development program coordinators and giving back in our community. “ We are very proud of our Club and the work we do for our members. National BGCA Week is a great reminder of how important it is to invest in our youth and all the great things happening at our Club like Pennies for Kindness.” Said Melissa Napiorkowski, the Director of Operations.

Thank you to all those who donated and participated in this project. We hope you are inspired to pay it forward and be kind!
